A bit about Amelya

Amelya N.S.H. (They/She) is a multi-hyphenate creative based in Tio’tia:ke/Montreal specializing in Sound Engineering, Film Production, and Music Technology, with six years of experience running their Production Studio, Apt. 6. In 2020 they graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor’s in Music and Music Technology. Shortly after, in 2021, they attended the film production program at L’Institut de Image et du Son, Being Black in Canada. Graduating from McGill in 2023 with a Masters in Sound Recording, Amelya aims to use their art and research to explore intersectionality, focusing on Afrofuturism and historically oppressed communities. Recently, they showcased their premiere multi-media art exhibition, Reflections; a multimedia exploration of self through an Afrofuturist lens. Throughout 2023 she has performed live paintings for Sapphonix Collective's events. In May 2023, Amelya released an album, Eastman, as the lead sound engineer performed by Canadian Composer and Guitarist Emmanuel Jacob Lacopo. This collaboration highlights the composer Julius Eastman through the lens of 21st century guitar. CBC 30 under 30 says, “it needs to be heard to be believed”. She offers original art: a collection of thought-provoking paintings, music, and mixed-media works that explore unique perspectives.
